I have practised therapy for over 20 years in one form or another and qualified as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist in 2003 from University College London (UCL).
I have worked in a number of NHS and private settings including specialist units for Trauma, Eating Disorders, Community Mental Health Teams and general outpatients.
I was Clinical Director of a residential Trauma Clinic with outpatients in Harley Street, and and worked as Senior Trauma Consultant at the Oxford Development Centre for a total of 14 years.
I provide specialist supervision for other mental health staff including other Clinical Psychologists. I taught CBT skills regularly at the University of Birmingham and for the local Trust. I also write specialist and Expert Witness reports for Court.
Like all Clinical Psychologists our work is supervised externally and we are bound by the British Psychological Society’s code of practice and ethics. Included in this is a standard rule of client confidentiality.
We are registered Practitioner Psychologists with the HCPC Health & Care Professionals Council and have affiliations to most major Health insurance companies.I have offered psychological assessment and therapy for over 20 years now in the NHS and offered private therapy for ten years. With over 11 years experience working with Children and Families both in a mental health and physical health care NHS setting, more latterly my work has been predominantly been with adults with a wide variety of presenting physical and mental health issues, which additionally includes working in an occupational context (both the NHS and the independent sector). Presenting problems of satisfied clients range from Anxiety and Mood-based disorders, loss and bereavement, post trauma responses, issues around identity, relationship difficulties and occupational 'burnout'.
I am trained in a variety of therapies including CBT, systemic therapy and solution focussed therapy and EMDR (levels 1-4). I am especially interested in working with therapies which include mindfulness as a core part of the approach, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy. Above all though, helping clients feel comfortable and safe in their therapeutic relationship, is the most important aspect of my work. My approach is one of respecting the client as an expert of their life experience and carefully clarifying what issues matter most to them, at the point of seeking therapy.
What's the bravest thing you ever said? asked the boy. "Help" said the horse. "Asking for help isn't giving up" said the horse, "it's refusing to give up" . (Taken from The Boy, the Mole, The Fox and the Horse, by Charlie, Mackesy)
