Welcome to the SafePlace website
Safeplaceuk.com is a small private therapy service catering for those suffering from psychological difficulties and/or the trials of everyday life.
It grew out of the regrettable closure of the NHS’ Outpatient Service in Northampton. Without this NHS service there are hundreds of people in the area who do not have access to professional psychological therapy for the so-called mild-moderate psychological problems. NHS provision, government-led, now only caters to those at serious risk. I believe, however, that it is vital to provide assistance to those people who have not yet reached this level of seriousness but are suffering nonetheless.
This service places ultimate importance in the idea of Safety, both within the therapeutic relationship and in the client’s mind and body. Psychological problems are sometimes seen as:
‘just defences people use when they feel themselves to be under immense threat and have to do something desperate in order to hold themselves together’.
With this in mind all problems are viewed with compassion rather than with destructive self-criticism. The therapist and the client work together to find an alternative coping strategy built from the foundations of strong inner resources and safety.
